In Japan, people say their last name first, then their first name because people usually go by their last name. First name is used only when they are close friends or family members.

When his little sister (4 years old) died when he was 7 years old (1st grade elementary) Fujima Keiichi, his best friend told him that they can share his little sister, Fujima Keiko.(Steve Kerr)

#10 CF (Center Forward) Sakuragi Hanamichi (Genius(Tensai), Basketman, Shohoku's Secret Weapon (Himitsu Heiki), Red Monkey(Akagesaru), Red-head Monk, Rebound King, King of Stupids)- 1st year After his father's death in Middle School, he must help his mother with her work. He is in love with Haruko but doesn't know how to express his feelings. (Dennis Rodman)
Others - The other members include Yasuda and OTHERS. ^^ Yasuda is the only one important in my story. He is the one with green shirt. (These are 2nd graders though. Sorry but can't find 1st years. . .) I will perhaps write which is which and all the irony but they are not mentioned in my story. (LIKE I SAID: My story is VERY condensed. I actually used all the minor characters, but people got confused)
Akagi Takenori - 3rd year Older brother of Akagi Haruko and ex-captain of Shohoku Basketball team. He quit basketball in order to go to a good college. The basketball college dropped him. (The reason is not on the book) So he goes on a different path, to become a physic scientist. (Remember, he is good in physics. ^^)
Kogure Kiminobu (Mr. Glasses, bunny shirt ^^) - 3rd year The ex-co-captain of Shohoku Basketball team ^^ He quit the team in order for himself to study and go to a good college. However, his little brother is taking over his place. ^^ Kiminobu is a real nice guy, who cares a LOT for his friends, (Remember him and Mitsui??) Great friend and adviser, he has no regrets when he left the team because he went to the IH. . . . . .though he wished that he could have won the IH as a champion.
Mito Yohei - 1st year Gang leader of Sakuragi Gundan. He went to same school with Sakuragi and his Gundan He has a small Family problem. He has one father, but two mothers. He seems to know a lot of things. He knew that only Rukawa can effect Sakuragi in Sannoh, he encouraged Sakuragi into joining the Basketball team again when he quit, (Though it was really subtle, we almost missed it) he called him tensai when Sakuragi did his first dunk, right onto Hanagata's face. ^^ He effects Sakuragi a bit and seems to know everything. . . . . Over all, nice personality, and doesn't fight unless you have too, (Didn't fight with Ryota and fought with Mitsui, at that time, he sure was mad ^^)
Sakuragi Gundan (or Guntai) - Consists of 5 members. Sakuragi Hanamichi is their mascot and Mito Yohei is their leader. The one with the mustache is Noma Chiyuichiro (or Imachu Sauchiro I found 2 names for him in the net) and the one who is fat is Takamiya Nozomi (or Hakami Anouzumi) and the tall guy is with blond hair, Ookusu Yuuji (or Ookuzu Yuji) Since they are gangsters, they like to fight but they fight with "honor" They fight one on one and they don't gang up on one guy. But mostly they are close and though they seemed to make fun of Sakuragi all the time, they support each other all the time. As gangs, they love money and gambling in the Pachinko shop.
Akagi Haruko - 1st year Naive Shohoku Basketball manager who loves Rukawa but she finds that Sakuragi loves her also. She gets more worried when more guy likes her too. She gets hyper when she sees, hears, walks by (etc) Rukawa. (And so do I ^^) She didn't know Sakuragi loved her and now faced with this fact, she has no clue how her and Sakuragi's relationship will grow too. . . .
Ayako - 2nd year cheerful Shohoku Basketball manager who went to Rukawa's Middle School. She likes Ryota (as a friend) but is already in love with another guy. She has a bubbly personality and she can be very dangerous. Her MIGHTY FAN will strike almost anyone. . . . She even hit seniors, Mitsui and Kogure. (It was an accident but still. . . . it must be her instinct)
Aota Tasuika - A childhood friend/rival? of Akagi Takenori because they both have the goal for conquering Japan. But Aota wants to conquer by Judo and he is the team captain. He also isn't very smart so he had to retake the exams like Rukawa, Sakuragi, Mitsui, and Ryota. But he has another side, he is a friend of Akagi after all. He comes to one of the games and yells at Akagi and that makes him fired up. Aota smiles when he finds that Akagi really loves Basketball. Though he can never have Sakuragi Hanamichi. . . . .
Cheerleaders - Ha, ha, What can I say? They are one large fan-club cheering for Rukawa Kaede. I would join them myself ^_^ In my story, Takato has a group of cheerleaders cheering for him. (Hey Mitsui was cute when he was in 1st grade, don't you think?) These cheerleaders are hated by almost everyone ^^ Sakuragi and Kiyota hates them because they are cheering Rukawa, Akagi thinks they are distracting him from practice and Anzai sensei is a little neutral, but they did push him and rolled on the floor. . . . .
Mitsui's Gangs - Led by Mitsui Hisashi, they liked to smoke and do some daring things. Tetsuo, the best fighter of these gangs, like to ride motorcycles without his helmets. Nori, who was the 2nd in charge, takes over the gang for Mitsui is a bit busy with his practices. Also, Ryu is known in the gang for fighting Rukawa. Mitsui himself can't drive but rides behind one of the gang members. After Mitsui joins the Basketball team, they become a bit more civilized and joins the Shohoku Cheerleading group. In the past, as gangs, they like to beat up those underclass delinquents, such as Sakuragi Gundan and Miyagi and they love to ride motorcycles.
Anzai Mitsuyoshi (White Devil, Old Man)Shohoku Basketball coach who once was a Japan's National Basketball Player and one of the starting members. He once taught at college until one of his student went to America and died in a car accident. After that he taught High School basketball teams only. He also changed his personality from mean to jolly and lets mostly the captain do all the training and drills. He is a friend with Toyotama High School's old coach. He influenced many students especially Mitsui Hisashi, Sakuragi Hanamichi and Rukawa Kaede.

(Mostly Basketball) She is in love with Fujima Kenji in Shoyo. She is very intelligent, in fact 3rd place in her school (in Japan, they tell you which place you are in on the report cards), and MVP in middle school. Her best guy friend is Takato Sho and they both went to same school with Kogure Akio and Mitsui Hisashi. She is like a sister to Mitsui and Sendoh. After her brother's death in 5th grade elementary, she crumples and needs support all the time. She has a mysterious past yet to be revealed and Takato, Kusao, Inoue and Mitsui tries to hide it to the best of their ability.(Steve Kerr, not telling ^_^)

Hiramatsu Akiko - 1st year A very popular girl who falls in love with Takato Sho. Though she pretends to be all-that snob with cheerleader attitude, she is kind and understanding, a side only shown to Fujima Keiko and Takato Sho. (The name is same as Haruko's voice actor. Based on a girl I know.)
Ryo's Gang - (Not really related to Shohoku High School, but is sort of related so I put it here.)
Perhaps High School drop outs, they are always into bad things. They want to revenge on Fujima Keiko so anyone who are her friends must beware. These gangs are mean and they carry weapons. As gangs, they like to intimidate others with their weapons. (So there are 3 gangs in Shohoku ^_^ a lot huh?)
